Windows Azure : Connect to Windows Azure via PowerShell

Prerequisite:

 

Steps

  • Open Powershell Azure program
  • On the right hand side “Commands window” select “Azure”

  • Execute  command ” Get-AzureAccount” on powershell window. This will show no output.
  • Import certificate to connect to  windows azure account from powershell. Using certificate based approach , you do not have to enter your credential on each powershell session.
  • Execute a command “Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile”.  This command will open browser and  “*datestamp*.pubsettings” file will be downloaded.
  • Execute command “Import-AzurePublishSettingsFile  <your downloaded file path”
  • Execute  command ” Get-AzureAccount” on powershell window. This will now show you account information.

Windows Azure : Set up power-shell for Azure

Needless to say PowerShell is very powerful and if you are administrating Windows Azure services than PowerShell is the way to go.

To use PowerShell for for windows azure administration and management you have install and set-up powershell first.

Steps to install powershell on your local computer

  1. Open Link Download PowerShell for Azure
  2. An executable file will be downloaded.
  3. Click on the file to install Powershell for azure
  4. Once installation is complete , Go to All Programs >Run > Azure powershell
  5. Click Azure power shell program
  6. Now you can see additional option for Azure . See image belowazure
